The last film you saw - and was it any good?

Simple as the title, comment on a previous post, or just make a comment of your own about a film you've seen (or films, it's really a very relaxed policy, not so much of a policy at all really, so relaxed it's like Julian Clary's bumhole, or Norman Lamont's, after he's fisted it).

    ------------

RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER - Spectacularly violent British mobster film, set down sarrrfff (probably has Rik in it). Gets a 7/10 from me for mostly managing to hold it all together despite losing track of its main protagonist a bit in the final third. It's hard to criticise a film for not having any likeable characters when everyone's a cunt and is played as such, but it does make it hard to sympathise when the inevitable shotguns to the head turn up.

SAW 4 - Better than SAW 3 (although that's not saying much). A bit less of the pointless gore, bit more of a plot and some characters, and Jigsaw's back story is well done (and conveniently gets round the fact he's dead before the film fucking starts). 6/10, not bad.

THE FLY - Olde (1986!) David Cronenberg film that just never gets old, superb intense performance from Jeff Goldblum, a fine supporting cast (including a very much shaggable Geena Davis), and some great 'proper' SFX before computers did everything. 8/10 but elevated to 9/10 for the absolutely sledgehammer ending.
You can't fight in here gentlemen, this is the war room!

Up. And it is simply a work of art. Pixar knows how to present a movie, and invoke every human emotion through simple animation. Surprisingly, it seems like a kids movie, but it is aimed more at adults.

    Watch or download.

The last film I watched was Superhero Movie. Although I have also seen Magicians recently. Both very amusing, Superhero movie is a case of get as many quickfire laughs as you can, but with large quantities of references to other Marvel films of recent years, it helps if you have at least watched Spiderman first.

Magicians is a comedy that takes itself a little more seriously. Worth watching just for "the trip".

Excuse me whilst I penetrate the Ectoplasm!

    Push & Gran Torino.

    Push = ****'s (not bad)

Gran Torino = ****'s (4 1/2 stars) because of the ending.

    They're the latest two movies.

It's set in and around Essex, apparently the 'true' unfolding of events from the Rettendon (sic) shootings.

A bunch of nasty fucking cunts who got their desserts imo. Those are the cunts that Nigel Benn used to hang out with.

If you liked that check out Rollin' with the nines. It's set in Brixton and is equally spiteful and nasty (only this time it's blacks). One of the dudes from ROTFS is in it as a bent copper. Tis a great rape scene in it too. Infact, the black dude from ROTFS is in it too (Temper).

    This week...

    Battle Of Britain
Good old chocks away type shit.

    Priceless
If you have the patience for subtitles (french), this is actually a fairly decent flick - comedy with a touch of romance, but not mushy by any means.

Interview With The Vampire - The Vampire Chronicles
Not usually my kind of thing but decent enough.

    Miami Vice
Probably better I hadn't ever watched the TV series - works ok as a standalone action flick.

    Risky Business
    Early Cruise stuff, not bad.

    Standard Operating Procedure
Documentary on what a USA military prison did in Iraq a few years ago - thought provoking I suppose, still find it hard to have any sympathy for those allah nutjobs.

    Get Smart
Top comedy featuring steve carell and the rock - good script all round.

Having had Role Models recommended to me on a number of occasions, I watched it last night (or the night before, I'm not sure) and it didn't raise more than a smirk. Supposed to be hilarious, but I thought it was shit. Then again, totally sparked out on downers so may have missed something.

Also saw Max Payne - didn't expect much, and I didn't get much. I think the game actually had more cinematography in it. To me, they failed to convey the environment in which Max finds himself in the game - and the gruff poetry seemed to be missing too. I kind of hoped the voice guy from the game would be narrating it. Again, mongled on valium at the time so I might be talking shit.

Saw Terminator Salvation at the cinema and thought it was ok. Christian Bale is a total douche bag, there were loads of plot holes, it didn't really 'feel' like a Terminator film and it sucked in a number of other ways - but I liked the robots/cyborgs and the action scenes and the predictable Arnie cameo appearance.

Clubbed - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0856778/ British film about a bloke who becomes a bouncer. Very good film. The main character could pass for Norman Wisdom any day.

Monsters Vs Aliens - Decent kids film made better when watched in 3D.

Looking forward to Ice Age 3 and Transformers...
I look around, and I can see

7 Pounds - with Will Smith. I can take or leave Smith but he is good in this one. The only downer is that it takes so long to get going. Won't spoil the ending but solid acting all round and recommended if you fancy putting something on once any kids in the house have goe to bed.

Quantum of Solace - Watched this for the fist time not so long ago and although I thought the plot was bit flaky there was some ACTION in that flick. Craig + Bond = Good
Don't talk to me about Terry Waite. I lent him a score and never saw him again!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

If you liked Forrest Gump, you'll love this film.
If you didn't like Forrest Gump, you should still give it a try.
A very bizarre story that lasts for almost 3 hours, but it's very engrossing and you really feel for the characters in it.
Great cinematography too, and an interesting soundtrack.

    10/10.
