    ipod disappointment - sound quality

So, for the first time today, I've used an iPod (nano flavour).

it's the misses, and I used it as I was on a long train journey, and my USB/3.5" adapter for my HTC touch diamond mobile (Win Mo flavoured) bust a few weeks ago, so I couldn't use my phone for the tunes.

I was using the same headphones I use on my mobile, some in ear sennheiser jobbies - reasonable quality headphones.

On the touch diamond, the sound quality is waaaay better than that of the ipod, and to be honest, this really surprised me....

The ipod distorts when you piss about with the equaliser or turn it up to any reasonable volume so you can hear it on a noisy tube train, in particular with more bassy tunes, and it really lacks in any decent bass reproduction.

I'm genuinely surprised that the king of mp3 players isn't everything I'd have expected (or led to believe!)

For now, i'll stick to my mobile phone, and if I ever look to replace this or buy a dedicated mp3 player (not really sure why I would) I'll be proceeding with caution!

Are the classics/shuffles equally or does the sound generally get better on an ipod the more you give over to uncle Steve?

To be honest, I'm not happy with my IPod. I won it during a promotion in my old job, and they really are crap.

Normal MP3 players, where you can just drag and drop your MP3s into folders, seem so much less fuss than the IPod with its own software.

And yeah, the sound quality isn't amazing. The only good thing is the massive memory. Organising your music seems like nowt but a big faff.
    Cheers,

I got one of these 'Creative Zen V' units:- http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...wAg#ps-sellers

Got it for $100bucks when I was last in the US. (Oct 2007 when it was over $2 to the £1). A decent set of headphones and this baby is all I need.

If I was to be totally honest, all I use it for is when I'm in bed. I love the sounds of rain so I have a 60 minute MP3 of rain falling and I have a playlist with this same mp3 on it 8 times so it takes me through the night. Very therapeutic and gets me off to sleep better than any tablet. I just need to be careful with headphones. I need a set that don't cause discomfort when I lay with my head on the side. Ironically, some old Walkman Sony Erricsson phone ones do the trick.
    I pity the fool..........

I was pleasantly suprised by the sound quality on my Blackberry Bold 9700 phone, much better than the previous Sony Ericsson Xperia

I use winamp - just drag the files into the playlist window and then select and upload to the ipod....
